Growing up in Stratford, Ontario, she faced a difficult childhood filled with trauma and personal problems. As a teenager, she battled substance abuse and emotional pain, and at one point even attempted self harm.

Everything began to change during a hospital stay when Pattie turned to Christianity and found hope in her faith. Only six months later, she learned she was pregnant at just 17 years old. The news shocked many people around her. Friends, relatives, and counselors strongly pressured her to have an abortion, telling her she was too young and unable to raise a baby on her own.
But Pattie refused to give up her child. Holding onto her faith, she moved into a shelter for pregnant teenagers where she could safely prepare for motherhood. Life was far from easy. She struggled financially and often had very little money, but she stayed determined to give her son a better future.
On March 1, 1994, just before turning 19, Pattie gave birth to Justin Bieber. As a single mother living on a low income, she worked hard to support him while encouraging his love for music.
